Episode 5 of the 'You're Not On The List' podcast and we've got our first festival episode! This week we're joined by Thomas Janes, owner & founder of Hifields Festival, a multi-genre, grassroots festival in Cambridgeshire.
Thomas cut his teeth on the world of events whilst at university. Then, after spending some time out in Ibiza, decided he wanted to start a club night in Cambridge. This quickly progressed to starting a day festival, and five years on, Hifields Festival is welcoming 5000 people across several stages. Everything from drum & bass to disco, the brand has grown year-on-year and we wanted to find out when is the right time to expand a festival?
We also discuss what's the craziest requests he's ever had on artist riders?
What can you do when acts try to get out of their contracts?
Are there benefits to putting events on in the middle of nowhere?
How long does it take to organise a festival?
What were the infamous Manumission parties like in Ibiza, where Fatboy Slim DJ'ed in the toilets and live sex shows happened on stage?
Sensitive subject matter included.

Pushing a bass-heavy sound, Lengoland has helped paved the way for some of the biggest names in the bass music scene, including; Wheeto, Skepsis, Darkzy and Bushbaby.
In this episode we discuss what it takes to control a group with thousands of members, Channel U and early grime, how Lengoland were able to host events worldwide during a pandemic, whether smaller events or bigger events are more fulfilling to organise, why it's not always best to follow advice from your heroes and how much of an impact branding has on a label.
